Typing Speed Test

Measure your typing speed in words per minute (WPM) and see how much faster you could write with voice dictation.

How fast should you type?

The average typing speed is 40 words per minute (WPM). Professional typists reach 65–75 WPM, while the fastest typists exceed 120 WPM. However, even the fastest typist is slower than natural speech.

Typing vs. voice dictation

Most people speak at 130–170 words per minute - roughly 3–4x faster than average typing speed. Modern speech recognition like on-device AI can transcribe at this natural pace with high accuracy, making voice dictation one of the most efficient ways to produce text.

Why does typing speed matter?

If you write professionally - emails, documents, code comments, notes - your typing speed directly impacts your productivity. A person who types 40 WPM and writes 2,000 words daily spends 50 minutes typing. With voice dictation at 150 WPM, that same text takes just 13 minutes.

How this test works

Type the displayed sentence as quickly and accurately as you can. The test measures your words per minute (WPM) based on the standard 5-character word, as well as your accuracy percentage. Your results are compared to the average voice dictation speed of 150 WPM.
